About Embakasi East

Embakasi East Constituency formerly known as Nairobi East Constituency lies South East of Nairobi Province and hosts Jomo kenyatta Airport which is the biggest airport in East and Cental Africa and is the focal point for major aviation activity in the region among other notable organizations.It was initially one of the eight constituencies in Nairobi Province.It consisted of eastern and southeastern surburbs of Nairobi. With 164,227 registered voters, it was the most populous constituency in Kenya.It covers the Eastlands part of Nairobi,initially it had common boundaries with Embakasi Division.The entire constituency was located within Nairobi City Council

Area and had an area of 208 km².The Nairobi East was created in 1969 and abolished in 2013, it was later replaced by Embakasi Central,Embakasi Central and Embakasi North.Embakasi constituency had common boundaries with Embakasi Division within Nairobi Province.It has its neighbouring constituency Embakasi West which in itself has four electoral wards ; Umoja I,Umoja II,Molwem,Kariobangi South. The Embakasi East Constituency in itself has five geographical wards that is namely:Upper Savannah Ward,

Lower Savannah Ward,Utawala Ward,Mihango Ward. Representatives

Early Life and Education

From 1995 TO 2002, Owino attended Kisumu Township Primary School. From 2003 to 2006 he joined Kisumu Boys Secondary School. In 2008 he joined the University of Nairobi for a Bachelors Degree in Acturial Science and graduated with First Class Honors in 2012.In 2013 ,he went back to Nairobi University (UoN) to pursue degree in Law.

Political Career

In 2011 he was elected as the chairperson of the Student Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU). On 31 August 2017,he was elected as Member of Parliament for Embakasi East Constituency .He is a lifetime member of the ODM Party.

Personal Life

Paul Ongilo Owino (Babu Owino) is a husband to Fridah Muthoni with whom they have two daughters .Babu also has another child from a previous relationship with an unnamed woman.Babu Owino has three biological children

Contoversy

Attempted Murder In January 2020 ,Owino was arrested for shooting an unarmed nightclub DJ in the neck at close range while at the B-Club , a popular night club in the Kilimani Area in Nairobi.Owino was charged with attempted Murder.He was jailed for 7 days and is currently out on bail pending completion of the case. According to Owino, he acted in self defence after he was provoked. A video of the shooting was published by several media , leading the DCI to announce that his office will charge him with attempted murder because it was clear that he intended to kill the man.In the video, Babu is seen shooting Felix Orinda
